invitation/flyer)
The Bybee Bridge Crossing (over McLoughlin Blvd) is approaching 100 years of
age and has outlived its useful life. Federal funding has been secured to replace the existing
bridge with a new structure.
The Bybee Bridge will be closed to all traffic commencing
Monday, January 26th, 2004 and will remain closed until
Nov 30th, 2004.
Why are we replacing the Bybee Bridge?
Project Description
The existing Bybee Boulevard Bridge consists of three different
structures built at different times between 1911 and 1943. Recent
inspections and structural analysis of the bridge has determined
that the bridge is nearing the end of its useful life. The current
concrete span over McLoughlin Boulevard does not provide adequate
clearance for vehicles traveling underneath. The concrete girders
continue to sustain damage from truck collisions. The roadway
section across the bridge does not contain adequate bike lanes or
sidewalks.
What is the work?
Improvements
- improve the roadway while maintaining one lane of traffic in
each direction
- provide for adequate vertical clearance over McLoughlin
Boulevard.
- widen the sidewalk and add bike lanes in each direction
- construct water quality facilities adjacent to the project
Who is constructing the new bridge?
Capital Concrete Construction Inc. was awarded this project by
ODOT.
What is the cost and who is paying for it?
Project costs: $4,000,000
Project funding: Highway Bridge Replacement &
Rehabilitation (HBRR) program
The purpose of the HBRR program is to provide funding to replace
or rehabilitate roadway bridges that have been determined deficient
because of structural deficiencies, physical deterioration, or
functional obsolescence. HBRR funding is specific to the replacement
of the actual structure of the bridge in order to ensure proper
function.
Federal funding will provide 80% of the total costs to design and
construct the new bridge. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT)
and City or Portland will provide the remaining funding for the
project (10% apiece).
What will be the detour?
The detour routes over McLouglin will be via SE Holgate on
the north end and SE Tacoma on the south end. Johnson Creek Blvd
will be open for the south end detour.
We are awaiting the details for bus #19 (Woodstock) and will post
those as soon as we receive them from TriMet.
