More and more Portland neighbors are discovering walking as the best way to get around, get some exercise, and meet their neighbors. Sometimes a walking experience can be enhanced with a simple path connection or just letting more people know where to find those great walkable streets and trails. With shrinking budgets, city and regional governments rely on area residents to take matters into their own hands and organize for and implement real improvements for pedestrians. The Portland Office of Transportation (PDOT) and Southwest Neighbors, Inc (SWNI) - Southwest Trail Group will present interactive and practical workshops designed to get you and your neighborhoods on a path to getting things done for pedestrians. Topics include:

  • Developing a shared community vision
  • How to get started and how to build paths and trails with your neighbors
  • Recruiting volunteers and getting them to come back
  • Creative solutions to knotty pedestrian problems
  • Walking groups - joining in or start your own

Our community partners, Willamette Pedestrian Coalition, Rose City Roamers and Portland's Community and School Traffic Safety Partnership  invite you to attend and will have information at our summit display tables.
