Women on Bikes

Women on Bikes Clinics
Calendar of Women on Bikes Rides

Pull that bike out of the basement. Dust it off and join us for Women on Bikes, a women-only series of clinics on bike fit, basic riding skills, bike maintenance, rights, responsibilities and route planning. After the clinics we will have an optional ride to practice your new skills and a chance to meet other female riders. Women on Bikes will also be leading 10-12 mile rides (see calendar) to give you a chance to get out and ride in a non-threatening group environment (no one will be left behind). If you want to practice skills, spend more time in the saddle or just spend a few hours chatting it up with other beginning women riders, we have a ride for you.

Women on Bikes Clinics

Saturdays, 9 am – Noon
There will be an optional ride after each clinic to practice skills, routes and just have some good old conversation and fun.

Riding Over Hurdles
June 11 and Sept. 10
Meet at Mt. Tabor Sports, 5941 SE Division St

What is keeping you from riding? Feel a little vulnerable in traffic? Have to haul children around? Have too many errands to do by bike? Don’t want to ride the whole way? Cyclists from your community and Bike Gallery will explain how they overcome such obstacles. Plus, we will demonstrate how to put your bike on the bus. WomenStrength, a personal safety program, will show us techniques to build our confidence.

We Are Traffic
July 9 and Oct. 8
Meet at Imbibe, 2229 SE Hawthorne Blvd

Do you know your rights and responsibilities as a cyclist? Want to be an advocate for something you love – cycling? Margaret Weddell, a local lawyer and cyclist, will speak to the laws of the road. Jessica Roberts, Bicycle Transportation Alliance’s Metro-area advocate, will talk to us about how we can make a difference in the cycling community.

Let’s Get Rollin’
Aug. 13
Meet at Mt. Tabor Sports, 5941 SE Division St

Not sure what type of bike is the best for you? Have a bike but not sure if it is the correct fit to keep you comfortable and ache-free? Need help figuring out the best route to ride? Too scared to ride because you might get a flat? Professionals from Bike Gallery and River City Bicycles will help fit you to your bike (or help you choose a new one) and teach you simple bike repair. Discussions of riding skills and route planning will follow. Then out on the streets we will go to practice all that we learned.
